Job Description

Business Development Manager - Construction, Roofing & Faandccedil;ades

£50,000-£60,000 basic salary
Milton Keynes | Hybrid and field-based | Nationwide remit
Permanent, full-time
Performance-related bonus plus company car or car allowance

A.D.S Construction Personnel Ltd are working with an established group of specialist contractors to recruit a Business Development Manager for their Milton Keynes head office.

This is a senior, client-facing role working across three businesses operating in construction, roofing and faandccedil;ades. You will develop opportunities nationwide, build long-term client relationships and create a well-qualified pipeline that matches the capabilities and growth plans of each division.

The group includes an £18 million roofing contractor with more than 70 years' combined industry experience, a construction division turning over approximately £9-£10 million and a growing faandccedil;ades business delivering cladding, metal roofing and fire remediation projects. The faandccedil;ades division was launched 18 months ago and has plans to reach £30-£40 million turnover.

The Role

You will identify opportunities early, build relationships with the people shaping specifications and procurement decisions, and keep projects moving through pre-construction, tender, negotiation and contract award across all three businesses.

Working directly with the senior leadership team and alongside estimating, commercial, design and operations, you will decide which opportunities are worth pursuing, direct enquiries to the right business and make sure each project fits technically and commercially.

This would suit someone who can open doors, ask the right questions and stay involved throughout a longer construction sales cycle. You will understand the main contractor and specialist subcontractor market and be confident discussing construction, roofing, cladding, faandccedil;ades and fire remediation opportunities with clients and internal teams.

Key Responsibilities

Build a strong UK pipeline of construction, roofing, cladding, faandccedil;ades, metal roofing and fire remediation projects

Develop new relationships with main contractors, developers, architects, consultants, specifiers and other key decision-makers

Identify opportunities during design, pre-construction and procurement

Understand each division's capabilities and direct opportunities to the right business

Qualify projects by value, programme, scope, risk, procurement route and likelihood of success

Create new accounts while continuing to develop existing client relationships across the group

Work with estimating and commercial teams on competitive tender submissions

Follow opportunities from first contact through tender, negotiation and contract award

Support the growth of the faandccedil;ades division while continuing to develop work for the established roofing and construction businesses

Attend client meetings, networking events and relevant industry exhibitions

Keep CRM records, pipeline reports and forecasts accurate and up to date

Report to senior leadership on activity, secured work and progress against agreed sales targets

What We're Looking For

Proven business development or sales experience within construction, roofing, faandccedil;ades, cladding or the wider building envelope market

A useful network across main contractors, developers, architects, consultants, specifiers or specialist subcontractors

Good knowledge of construction tendering, procurement and project sales cycles

Evidence of finding, developing and converting project opportunities into secured work

Commercial judgement and the confidence to challenge or walk away from unsuitable enquiries

Strong communication, negotiation and presentation skills

A proactive approach to opening new accounts and following up opportunities

The ability to manage several workstreams across three businesses without losing focus

Ability to manage a nationwide field-based role and organise your own diary

Full UK driving licence

Based within a reasonable commute of Milton Keynes

Relevant Sector Experience

Your background should include commercial experience with one or more of the following:

Main contracting, refurbishment or general construction

Flat, pitched or specialist roofing

Rainscreen, architectural cladding or curtain walling

Metal roofing and wider external-envelope systems

Faandccedil;ade remediation, recladding or fire remediation

Faandccedil;ade design, manufacture or installation

You do not need to be a technical specialist in every area, but you must understand construction project sales and be able to learn the strengths, client base and commercial priorities of each business.

Salary, Benefits and Why Join?

£50,000-£60,000 basic salary

Performance-related bonus

Company car or car allowance, depending on personal circumstances

21 days' annual leave plus bank holidays

One additional day of holiday per year after three years' service, up to a maximum of five extra days

Pension scheme

Hybrid working with a nationwide client remit

Flexibility around commitments outside work

Company days out, Friday pub trips and company trips

Direct access to the senior leadership team across three established and growing businesses

The opportunity to develop work across a varied mix of construction, roofing, cladding, faandccedil;ades and fire remediation projects

A key role in the continued growth of the faandccedil;ades division, with ambitious plans to reach £30-£40 million turnover

A friendly, sociable business where you can shape the group's business development approach
